Our Expert Doctors: Dr. Hoda Kowsari
Dr. Kowsari grew up in Toronto, where she completed her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2007. Being from a family of dentists and other health care practitioners, and her passion for working with people, she decided to continue her studies and completed her degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery from University of Toronto in 2012.
She also had the desire to provide exceptional care to remote areas, was curious about life in other Canadian cities, and wanted to spend more time in nature, and less time in traffic. Therefore, in 2012 she moved to Thunder Bay where she has been practicing all aspects of general dentistry such as fillings, crowns, veneers, root canals, extractions, nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas), cosmetic procedures, working with children, TMD management and more.
Dr. Hoda Kowsari
Dr. Hoda Kowsari took over Dr. DiCasmirro’s practice, with his full endorsement, in 2022 bringing with her over 20 years of experience in the dental industry. Graduating from the University of Toronto in 2012, Dr. Kowsari was attracted to Northern Ontario because she wanted to live in a city with nature closeby. With lakes, ski hills and hiking trails, Thunder Bay was the perfect fit.
Dr. Kowsari is the President of Thunder Bay Dental Association and sits on the General Council with the Ontario Dental association. Keeping very active in bringing Thunder Bay the most modern practices and advancements in the dental field.
A very knowledgeable, competent and caring professional, Dr Kowsari is very conscientious and prides herself in giving the best dental care Thunder Bay has to offer. Updating the office with ongoing improvements, Dr. Kowsari hopes to bring services like, invisalign etc.
She and her hand picked team look forward to serving you and your family at her expanding practice. Here’s to a wonderful future and healthy smiles.
Meet Our Team
Laura
TREATMENT CO-ORDINATOR
Laura is a 2007 graduate of honours from Canadore College’s Dental Hygiene program. With over 18 years in dentistry and 16 of them being within the profession of Dental Hygiene. She graduated in 2008 from the Dental Anesthesia for Dental Hygienists program at the University of British Columbia, has been an active member within good standing with the College of Dental Hygienist of Ontario, an active member of the Ontario Dental Hygiene Association, as well as an active member of the Thunder Bay Dental Hygiene society. She has a passion for pediatrics and preventive dentistry. We are happy to have such a gentle and qualified team member.
If not in the office, you can usually find her around the rinks coaching hockey within the Thunder Bay Women’s Hockey Association as well as playing hockey herself. She enjoys spending all her time with her family, her husband, daughter and chocolate lab.
Chelsea
DENTAL Assistant
Chelsea is a Dental Assistant with over 20 years of experience. Graduating from Confederation College in 2008, she added to her education with a diploma in PSW. She has tried a variety of jobs but the dental industry kept calling her back. She and Dr. Kowsari have been working as a team for 7 years, and plans to continue that for many more years to come.
In her free time Chelsea enjoys camping, fishing, zumba and selling beauty products.
Melissa
Hygienist
Melissa is a 2006 graduate of the dental hygiene program at Confederation College with first class standings. Melissa was the recipient of the Sunstar Butler Award as well as receiving an invitation to Sigma Phi Alpha
With 17 years experience Melissa brings with her a passion for working with the clients. Her main goal is always to make the client feel comfortableduring their dental treatment.
Whether it is talking about a common interest or learning about her clients, she likes everyone to leave feeling happy with their dental experience.
Melissa has just recently moved to Thunder Bay and looks forward to getting to know clients at the office.
When not in the office Melissa enjoys watching the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs with her son, as well as a great cup of coffee with friends.
Sherry
Office Manager
Sherry is a 1986 Graduate of the Dental Assisting program at Confederation College. Sherry graduated with top honours.
With 38 yrs of experience, Sherry brings a great knowledge of front end operations and insurance understanding.
When not in the office Sherry enjoys her family and especially her grandchildren. Sherry and the grandchildren spend many summer weekends at the family camp in Armstrong.
Sherry really enjoys nature walks, hikes, inline skating and she enjoys many music festivals in our area and away.
Joy
0FFICE ADMINISTRATOR
Joy is a member of our front staff, happy to greet you with a welcoming smile and book your appointments. New to the dental field she has enjoyed learning a variety of front and back of house duties to help bring you the best and most efficient service. She has been with the team for one year.
In her spare time she enjoys performing in local theater productions, swing dancing, yoga, and the occasional milkshake.
Lucy
Hygienist & Dental Assistant
Lucy is a 2021 graduate from The Dental Hygiene Program in Cambrian College from Sudbury. She graduated early from her program which then led her to travel to America and get her license there as well. Within her last few years of experiences she has grown a passion for assisting and is always looking for more ways to learn and grow as a hygienist.
In her free time she absolutely loves the outdoors and enjoys being involved in sports. She also has a huge heart for people who don’t have access to dental care and is excited to explore opportunities to volunteer in different countries to provide the dental care they need.
We can assure you Lucy cares about your dental care as well as your overall health and well-being. She will take her time to get to know you and help you always leave content with the care you have received.
Amanda
Hygienist
Over 15 years of experience and dedicated to her career, Amanda enjoys the continuing education involved with being a hygienist. Ask her about in office and take home teeth whitening as well as laser perio therapy. When not in the clinic she enjoys being active and enjoying the vast outdoors that Thunder Bay offers.
